A spring-loaded action opens the holder and clamps down firmly on phones up to 5 inches wide, and Arkon recommends running the RoadVise Holder with bare devices or with skins and ruggedised cases fitted. Because the cradle sits low, the rear camera stays clear for spur-of-the-moment photos and video. Down at the base, polyurethane gel works alongside the suction cup for an exceptionally strong surface bond. On soft vinyl, leather or similar dashboard finishes, use the supplied 3M adhesive mounting disk so you don't end up with permanent indentation marks. For all its holding power, the sticky suction mount still lifts off cleanly and can be reused elsewhere. The arm tilts vertically and swivels a full 360°, so you can line the screen up from whatever angle suits the driver's seat. Pop the holder off and the 17mm ball mount base underneath is ready for Garmin GPS units. The XL179 is a dependable in-car and in-truck mounting answer built to handle the job.
